affect lab (affectlab.org) is an interdisciplinary research studio focused on the technology practices of communities.

The lab’s mandate is to create actionable knowledge – through creative in-situ experiments, interventions, field and desk research  – about the human-technology relationship especially as it relates to feelings, emotions and a sense of place; to empower stakeholders in policy development, planning and city making.

Using a mixture of narrative, ethnographic, affective and sensory methods affect lab reflects on and analyses the relationship between communities and spaces through the lens of technology. A  key focus is on the use of mobile technology within marginalized and vulnerable communities.

Research end-products take the form of installations, exhibitions, open-source toolkits, open-access publications, white papers, generative and foundational research reports.

Affect Lab is a not-for-profit foundation (Stichting) registered in The Netherlands founded by Dr. Natalie Dixon and Katy Yudin in 2012.
