I cut my teeth as a journalist working for the South African Press Association in Johannesburg in 1996. During my bachelor’s studies in Journalism at Rhodes University I worked as a stringer for a variety of news agencies.
Since then I have written for newspapers and magazines (Elle, FHM, T3) before becoming the editor of youth culture title SL magazine in 2004. A few years later I became the associate publisher. In 2006 together with the publisher I launched HYPE magazine: the first hip hop title in South Africa.
Currently I am commissioned as a freelance writer for amongst others:
Mail & Guardian, a premium South African newspaper and website. I cover an arts and culture beat including features on Paris Photo and new media conferences such as PICNIC exploring ideas of smart cities in City DNA.
TimeOut Amsterdam magazine, the local edition of the international listings title. See my latest feature in the January 2012 issue here.
Past Work includes:
British Airways’Horizons magazine feature on
Owni.eu feature article on Iranian censorship of women’s magazines.
